Kobolds are another creation of Setelli, tiny, dragonlike humanoids. The vast majority of kobolds are slaves of their dragon masters, either formally (legally slaves) or by their worship and fear of them. Some dragons justify this by saying Setelli made the kobolds to be their slaves, others by saying that kobolds are naturally evil and should be under the control of dragons, still others by saying that kobolds would not have a role in society without their slavery, and still others have other excuses.
Kobolds in certain areas of the dragonlands have begun to revolt against their dragon masters, hoping that by overthrowing them they will gain respect and freedom. Kobolds are generally treated poorly all over the world, a notable exception being Xiaomen, where many of them live, having been taken by liberal minded ex-masters there or having escaped to their freedom.
Kobolds are known for their cleverness and mechanical minds. They are excellent miners and trap-makers, have precise vision, and have a very long attention span and a great amount of patience, both unusual traits in species with a low life span.
Kobolds range from 2 to 3 feet high, have scales the colors of dragons, and most weigh under 30 pounds. Their bodies are completely covered in scales (no hair) and they have long tails, which they often decorate. Their eye colors usually match the color of their scales.
Kobolds speak Draconic.
Standard Racial Traits
Ability Score Racial Traits: Kobolds are weak and fragile of body, but agile and cunning. +2 Dex, +2 Int, -4 Str, -2 Con
Type: Kobolds are Humanoids with the Reptillian subtype.
Size: Kobolds are are Small creatures and thus gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty on their combat maneuver checks and to Combat Maneuver Defense, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks.
Base Speed: Kobolds have a base speed of 30 feet.
Languages: Kobolds begin play speaking Draconic and one other language of their choice. Those with high Intelligence scores can choose from any language.
Defense Racial Traits
Draconic Scales: Kobolds have dragon-like scales that grant them a +1 natural armor bonus and 5 resistance to any one element, based on their scales’s color.
Red, Gold, or Brass: Resist Fire 5
Black, Copper or Green: Resist Acid 5
Blue or Bronze: Resist Electric 5
White or Silver: Resist Cold 5
Feat and Skill Racial Traits
Craft: Kobolds gain a +2 racial bonus on Craft (trapmaking), Perception, and Profession (miner) checks. Craft (trapmaking) and Stealth are always class skills for a kobold.
Senses Racial Traits
Darkvision: Kenisans see perfectly in the dark up to 60 feet.
Weakness Racial Traits
Light Sensitivity: Kobolds’ lives in darkness have caused them to suffer from light sensitivity.
